Writing as Paul

 Re-read pages 124 -126. (5 minutes)

Write a letter from Paul to Keller in response. Brainstorm ideas and then plan in dot point form. (10 minutes)

You may choose to write it at the time or to have Paul write it at the end of the novel, bringing to it his more developed understanding of himself. Consider how different these two versions of Paul’s letter might be.

Try to achieve the right voice for Paul both in general terms and in matching his tone to the timing of the letter. (20 minutes)

Remember to re-read as you write rather than reading only at the end. Use the editing checklist to edit your response. Proof-read and post to your blog. (10 minutes)

Thinking about how 'Maestro' represents 'Growing Up'

Here are the notes that we took today about the various ways in which Peter Goldsworthy represents the concept of 'growing up' in his novel, Maestro

What is the book saying?

How are we positioned to see this?

- Experiences
- New experiences – learning/discovery
- Finding one’s identity
- Journey
- Alterations in perspective/attitude/etc.
- Growing up is not the same for everyone.
- Growing up can be influenced by various factors, including other people
- Growing up can be difficult + may not lead to expected/desired outcomes.

- Plot development – what happens in the story
- Imagery à setting becomes important in mirroring/explaining the ‘new’ aspect
- First person voice à point of view of character
- Characterisation
- Motif
- Embedded/underpinning values, etc.
- Language choice

Thank you to Mathilde for sending through her notes :)
